It’s Time Once Again to Give Back to Our Community

It’s time again for CoverMyMeds’ annual CoverMyCommunity competition to see who will log the most volunteer hours during August. Last year, 647 employees volunteered 2,500 hours for causes in our communities, logging 1,500 hours in August alone.

One quality all CoverMyMeds employees share is a drive to serve and do good for the causes they care about. This August, those efforts culminate in the spirit of friendly competition for CoverMyCommunity.

CoverMyCommunity is a month-long initiative that happens every August during which employees log volunteer hours. During CoverMyCommunity, we see our team’s compassion in action. We see people pushing boundaries to do more good with the resources at hand, using their creativity to make the communities where we live and work better.

CoverMyCommunity kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 1 and extends through to Saturday, Sept. 5 — with a goal of volunteering 2,021 total hours. This year, CoverMyCommunity efforts will focus on the following four Pillars of Impact:

  1. Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  2. Education
  3. Food Access
  4. Passion

These Pillars of Impact serve as a guide for volunteers to make an impact on certain areas of need within their communities. The Passion Pillar is a little different — it’s dedicated to volunteers focusing on causes they’re passionate about that may not filter into the remaining three pillars.

CoverMyCommunity also has a competition element among teams and individuals who participate. Top volunteering teams and individuals will win the opportunity to select a non-profit organization or charity of their choice to donate to. By adding a little friendly competition, we’re able to expand the ways we give back to our communities.

Last year we opened CoverMyCommunity to the whole company, but because of recent organizational changes and the exciting expansion to 5,000+ employees, participation may look different this year.

Anyone can participate in CoverMyCommunity. However, the event is being marketed and promoted directly to our team members in Network Services, HubExpress, AMP and ScriptHero Patient Advocacy who are served by the Social Connection Employee Engagement team.

For me, being selfless means thinking of others before you think of yourself.

Living our core values

Being selfless and embracing challenges, while also understanding that results matter, are values embodied through participation in CoverMyCommunity. We do real good in our work and in our communities every time we connect to achieve our shared mission. This August, CoverMyCommunity provides a prime opportunity for our team’s connection in service of meaningful causes.

“For me, being selfless means thinking of others before you think of yourself,” said Almeida Dye. Almeida was our top employee volunteer in 2020, contributing over 215 volunteer hours on 59 projects. She ranked as the second-place employee volunteer in both 2018 and 2019.

CoverMyCommunity 2020 was extended a week due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Employees volunteered more than 1,500 hours and raised $10,000 for causes during CoverMyCommunity 2020. Throughout the year, 647 employees logged 2,500 volunteer hours on 236 projects in the communities CoverMyMeds serves. Twelve employees were appointed to non-profit boards last year alone.

Compassion in action

Our volunteerism in 2020 earned CoverMyMeds a place on People Magazine’s Top 50 Companies that Care 2020 and brought home the Medical Mutual Pillar Award for Community Service.

CoverMyCommunity is conducted in collaboration with Besa, a Franklinton-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting people and businesses to service opportunities in the community where our company is located. Through our 2020 Besa business partnership, a Virtual Stay at Home Showcase featuring employee performances raised $16,755 for the YWCA.

Through your volunteer service during CoverMyCommunity this August, you’ll provide meaningful outcomes for people and causes where there's tremendous need. To help you begin your CoverMyCommunity commitment today, here’s a primer on how the Besa volunteer platform works:

  • Create your account on givebesa.org and set your personal volunteer-hours goal

  • Find a volunteer opportunity that aligns with causes and issues you care about from Besa’s open volunteer project listings

  • Each volunteer listing on Besa will provide guidance into whether the project takes place at an ADA-compliant location and the physical demands of each project

  • Sign up for the service opportunity you’ve selected to reserve your space as a volunteer

  • The Besa platform allows you to track your volunteer hours, share your work with colleagues and track your progress towards your volunteer-hours goal
